VVP Collaborations
Here, I will upload every collaboration projects for the Vision, Voice, & Practice course, portfolio-style. All collaborators and a description for each project will be provided.
Collaboration #1: Family Silhouette & Newspaper
Collaborators: Claire Jacobson and Cameron Bascombe
For our first big collaboration project, we were to create a work that combines text and image, with the text to be privileged. Claire, Cameron, and I decided to create a 1940s-style newspaper, with an Irish family as the headline, along with the family's silhouette portraits. We ended up going above-and-beyond, as we wanted to aim for experience; we want to create this 1940s living room, where we include a chair, a vinyl player, and frames for the silhouette portraits.
The story is a dysfunctional, yet unique Irish-American family during World War II. The father is a family-man, who wished to fight in war, but can't due to his physical conditions. The mother is the house-wife, but has unique interests. The son is a jazz player, who does not want to fight in Europe, though his father and the law said otherwise. The sister is a rebellious-type, going against what women should wear.
We decided to go with a newspaper as our way to present the text, since we believe the newspaper is an outdated source in our contemporary age. We gave each family member their own story and headline. We also decided to write in prose poetry form, since we were more invested in poetry as our type of text.
These photos were taken on my iPhone during our presentation. You can read the newspaper in the PDF below.
Collaboration #2: Remembrance
Collaborators: Olivia Blair and Rachel Grizzard
Our second big collaboration project is similar to the first: create a work that features a text and an image. The only difference is the image is to be privileged. Rachel, Olivia, and I discussed about what we can do. We decided to go a bit more on the personal route and choose people that inspired us or were once a close friend. This varies from families to former friends to deceased relatives.
From people like John F. Kennedy to our own families to pastors who are in prison or dead for spreading the Gospel, we want to remember these men and women who were (and still) important to our lives. We also wrote letters (we each wrote the people we chose) about what we think about them and the impact they have made in our own lives. We included the photos and the letters with candles and books. We present the project at the Rose Chapel in Biola University, since we believe the chapel fit well with what we were trying to go for.
These pictures were taken by Rachel and I via our DSLR cameras.
